Founded as an
alternative to the Mental Institution, over time "Villa Chiarugi"
has undergone a gradual process of change, bringing itself up to
the standards of national legislation regarding mental health to
become, today, a structure integrated with the National Health
System for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases of the
has three pavilions: two larger and one smaller, with 6,000 m2
covered area and 25,000 m2 uncovered, plus a hall for
conventions and physical therapy.
The two large
pavilions comprise: a ground floor, with ambulatories and toilet
facilities, and three upper storeys. Each storey has a 20-30-bed
ward, completely independent from the rest: each has its own
entryway, living room, and greenery.
